Partition into k subsets

CodingDistributed systemsAlgorithms & data structuresSenior–Staff~30 min

Given an integer array nums and an integer k, determine whether it is possible to partition nums into exactly k non-empty subsets whose sums are all equal. Return true or false. Here 1 <= k <= len(nums) <= 16, and each element is a positive integer.

Implement
can_partition_k_subsets(nums: list[int], k: int) → bool

What a strong answer looks like

State your approach and its time/space complexity out loud before you optimize. Handle the edge cases (empty input, duplicates, overflow), and say why you chose this over the brute force. Green tests are the floor, not the grade.
