Rotting oranges

CodingAlgorithms & data structuresMid–Senior~30 min

You are given an m x n grid where each cell is 0 (empty), 1 (fresh orange), or 2 (rotten orange). Every minute, any fresh orange that is 4-directionally adjacent to a rotten orange becomes rotten. Return the minimum number of minutes that must elapse until no cell has a fresh orange. If this is impossible, return -1. The grid has 1 to 100 rows and 1 to 100 columns.

Implement
oranges_rotting(grid: list[list[int]]) → int

What a strong answer looks like

State your approach and its time/space complexity out loud before you optimize. Handle the edge cases (empty input, duplicates, overflow), and say why you chose this over the brute force. Green tests are the floor, not the grade.
