Question

A warehouse dashboard shows the stock count of one product across several bins. Write a function that returns the spread of the counts: the difference between the largest and smallest values in the list. If the list is empty or has a single bin, the spread is 0. Example: counts [4, 9, 2, 7] gives a spread of 7 (9 minus 2).

Implement
stock_spread(counts: list[int]) → int
Examples
in[[4,9,2,7]]out7
What a strong answer looks like

State your approach and its time/space complexity out loud before you optimize. Handle the edge cases (empty input, duplicates, overflow), and say why you chose this over the brute force. Green tests are the floor, not the grade.

Vibe coding: describe the solution in plain language (or narrate it) and the coach grades your approach. Generating runnable code from your description is coming next.

Run or narrate your approach, then ask the coach.
