Rotate matrix in place

CodingAlgorithms & data structuresMid–Senior~20 min

Rotate an n x n integer matrix 90 degrees clockwise in place and return it. You must modify the input matrix directly (no allocating a second n x n grid). 1 <= n.

Implement
rotate_image_cw(matrix: list[list[int]]) → list[list[int]]
Examples
in[[[1,2,3],[4,5,6],[7,8,9]]]out[[7,4,1],[8,5,2],[9,6,3]]
What a strong answer looks like

State your approach and its time/space complexity out loud before you optimize. Handle the edge cases (empty input, duplicates, overflow), and say why you chose this over the brute force. Green tests are the floor, not the grade.
